We arrived in Venice about 10.00am after an early start from home. After booking into the Canal Hotel, which was just how I imagined a Venice hotel to be, it was on the banks of the Grand Canal with beautiful views, we spent the rest of the day walking along the lanes crossing the canals until we reached the famous Piazza San Marco with the Saint Mark’s Basilica.
It was very beautiful in the glorious sunshine and we spent time exploring the area taking in the sights of the Rialto Bridge and the Doges Palace. We took the river bus back and finished the day with an evening meal in a restaurant along the canal, so pretty in the evening with the lights on.
The next day we took a river taxi to Murano famous for its glass making for over 700 years. After watching a demonstration we enjoyed seeing the amazing pieces that had been created, unfortunately they were also amazing prices but all were very beautiful and I do believe one of our lucky group made a purchase,
Later that day we caught a train to Padua and the day after set off early to the car show. There was a lot to see but we were always drawn back to the Fiat 500 ‘s on show.
We were made very welcome by the Italian Fiat 500 Club and were able to make some purchases on their stand, so we ladies were very happy.
Our Hotel in Padua was in the old town with it’s arcaded streets and stylish shops. We spent the next day sightseeing this historic town taking an open top tour bus and later exploring on foot. It is a beautiful town and well worth a visit. All too soon it was time to go home, we were all very tired but happy.
Thanks again Paul for organizing yet another successful trip and looking after the weary travellers and thanks to Gino for helping with the translating for those of us too lazy to make ourselves understood.
